"On Thursday 22 Jan, at 3pm, the committeee and members of the Sirius Dog Sanctuary will be meeting in front of the Municipal building on Anexartisias St in Limassol (where the little Xmas market was located. The Chairman will then present our petition to the authorities to indicate the level of support we have received from animal lovers who are appalled at the prospect that the Sanctuary may close.
The next court case date is in early February, therefore this meeting is to highlight our plight, and hope that the authorities may drop the case.
Last year we re-homed over 230 dogs, which were technically the responsibility of the local administration; to date in 2009 we have re-homed 23 dogs and taken in an additional 8, with 3 more to be taken from death row in a municipal pound on Friday. If we are closed down, the situation in Limassol for stray and injured dogs looks bleak.
If you, like us at Sirius, are appalled by the amount of strays in Limassol and surrounding areas, and the blatant cruelty to animals which goes on, then please come and join us in letting the administration know that it should be doing more.
